The 14th Global Intellectual Property Convention (GIPC) took place at the Marriott Resort and Spa in Panaji, Goa from February 18th to 19th, 2023. This prestigious event, in collaboration with the DPIIT-IPR Chair of NALSAR University of Law, brought together in-house IP counsels, innovators, IP attorneys, and experts from around the world to discuss and explore best practices in maximizing the value of innovation and intellectual property. The convention commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Goa, focusing on the state government's green technology initiatives. Mr. Pravin Anand also presented a concept project featuring an interactive hologram of Dr. C.V. Raman. Over the course of two days, the convention covered a wide range of topics including green technology, NFTs, AI, virtual reality, IP data management, copyright and design rights, FRAND licensing, and biosimilar patents. The event featured plenary sessions, technical sessions, and discussions on various subjects. Plenary sessions included discussions on green tech innovation, the Eurasian patent system, the correlation between startups and IP valuations, and recalibrating IP strategy in the context of 5G and Industry 4.0. Technical sessions focused on compulsory licensing, NFTs and IP concerns, designs, copyright and trade dress, data management, AI inventorship and patent ownership, IP considerations in AR, VR, and MR, patent exhaustion and FRAND licensing across IoT verticals, and pharma/biosimilars patent litigation and enforcement. The convention provided an excellent platform for IP professionals, policymakers, innovators, and legal experts to exchange knowledge, share insights, and collaborate in various areas of intellectual property. It facilitated discussions on emerging trends, challenges, and solutions in the IP landscape. The event concluded with a commitment from the DPIIT-IPR Chair of NALSAR University of Law to continue engaging with different sectors within the intellectual property regime and promote training, capacity development, and collaboration between academia, research, and industry in the field of IPRs. Overall, the 14th GIPC was a highly informative and insightful event, fostering networking opportunities and promoting the advancement of intellectual property practices and strategies.
